The rapid growth of the photovoltaic solar energy industry is providing a green solution to the problem of adequate electrical energy supply. There are no technological or resource limitations to the growth of the industry. This expansion also solves environmental and social problems that accompany traditional sources of electrical energy.

Solar cell production is, however, not perfect. So called off-spec cells are eliminated from the value-added-chain because they don’t meet the electrical or optical requirements to be used in modules. Through the innovative use of cell processing technology, Innotech Solar transforms off-spec cells into top quality productive solar cells, modules, and power plants with a minimum of additional energy.

Multi-crystalline silicon solar cell modules have an average energy payback period of about 1-1.5 years. For ITS-modules with cells that are fully recovered, the energy savings are the highest. ITS-modules can generate energy savings of up to 90% for cells that cannot be employed elsewhere ITS-modules are well below the industry average of 1-1.5 years. For the remaining warranty time and the technical lifetime, the energy produced is a true net gain. The result is that decades of solar electricity are produced from Innotech Solar’s work.

ITS is working with the world’s major cell producers to provide them with a better market for their non-prime solar cells. Consequently, everyone benefits; average costs are reduced and a greater quantity of clean, green, electric energy is made available to the world market. In order to process all the available cells, ITS is expanding manufacturing capacity and opened a new production facility in Halle, Germany in second quarter of 2011.

The new production capacity includes both well-known cell-processing techniques, and new processes developed by Innotech Solar. By using several approaches, Innotech Solar makes the best use of every solar cell. One of our aims is to produce green energy by using green energy in our factories. This is why our first ITS production plant is located in

Narvik, where all the electrical power used by the plant is from renewable sources. Our second production plant, located in Halle, uses electricity generated by a rooftop ITS power plant and other green sources in Germany.

With products and processes from Innotech Solar, the overall production efficiency of the global PV industry is enhanced. By investing a small amount of additional energy in non-prime solar cells, ITS turns these cells into prime cells for use in fully productive solar power plants. With this effort from ITS, the total power produced by PV solar power plants worldwide increases, while the average carbon footprint per kWh produced decreases in response.
